This year, the End of the Year Awards come a little bit late, but they're finally here: The 2004 Goldminds. Discovering the sites, publications, and people honored with these awards is like finding a goldmine...one finds a wealth of information and in some cases new friends. One also finds some very interesting and creative minds and tons of support in expressing their individuality. To all those honored, I congratulate you and thank you for bringing something significant to the world of body modification. Following is a breakdown of the awards, with new categories listed first, please follow the links to see who the Round Table members chose to honor with a 2004 Goldmind:

New Categories for 2004

Best Community Forum -- This award is inspired by last year's Member's Choice Awards. Consideration should be given to a BBS, newsgroup, chat room, etc. that has a great atmosphere...friendly, helpful, and interesting content. IAM is not being considered as a whole in this category...each forum on IAM is considered separately.

Modified Event of the Year -- This award is for conventions etc. from the past year. Consideration should be given to events that have been big enough to draw attention even from people who did not attend, but should also place consideration on events the Round Table members have personally been to and think would be a positive experience for anyone who decided to attend.

Modified Celebrity of the Year -- This award is inspired by one of last year's Member's Choice Awards. Basically this is for a celebrity that has brought attention (positive hopefully) to body modification in the past year.

Enemy of the Mod -- OK, cheesy name...any better ideas for next year will be greatly appreciated! Basically this is the award for the biggest problem/issue that the body modification world faced in the past year. This award could go to something inside our community, such as back alley shops or it could go to a person or group outside of the community that is irrationally attacking body modification by trying to pass laws or convince people that body modification is bad etc.

Returning Categories for 2004

Up And Coming Website -- This award is for the site that's made the biggest improvements, gained a major boost in its following or is brand new this year.

Best Piercing Website -- This award is for the site that has the best piercing related content, whether it be information, images, interviews, articles, etc.

Best Tattoo Website -- This award is for the site that has the best tattoo related content, whether it be information, images, interviews, articles, etc.

Best Extreme Website -- This award is for the site that has the best extreme related content, whether it be information, images, interviews, articles, etc.

Best Body Jewelry Website -- This award should really be for the best Jewelry Supplier, as it is meant for the site/supplier with the best selection, service, quality, etc. and not necessarily the best website.

Best Media Coverage -- This award is for the mainstream media coverage of the body modification world. News shows, magazines, etc. that do not cover body modification as their primary focus are up for consideration. If MSNBC or TLC has a special on bodyart or Time Magazine does an article on bodyart, that show or article would be in the running for this award.

Best Publication -- This award is for magazines, books, etc. that focus on body modification.

Best Modified Porn Website -- This award is for the site that has the best porn content featuring modified models.

Website of the Year -- This is for the site that is considered the best overall, it can focus on all aspects of body modification or single out something specific.

Modified Mind of the Year -- This is basically the "Person of the Year" award. This is for the person who has made the biggest contribution to the body modification community in the last year.

Round Table Member's Choice Award -- This is where the Round Table members get to honor whatever they want that they feel deserves recognition not covered by the current awards. In some cases, the categories the members come up with will become official awards next year.
